Syllabus

KNOWLEDGE AND COMPRESSION
Knowledge of the physical principles of ultrasound. Knowledge of the main functions and set up of the ultrasound machine. Knowledge of vascular, thorax and pelvic ultrasound semiotics. Knowledge of ultrasound-guided venipuncture techniques. Knowledge of the echographic structural characteristics of thrombotic and fibrin sleeves events in cannulated vessels from vascular accesses.
CAPACITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND COMPRESSION
Describe the physical characteristics of ultrasound for medical purposes. The setting of the ultrasound and choice of the most appropriate transducer based on the type of exam to be performed. Carry out a correct and complete assessment of the vascular, thorax and pelvic anatomical structure. Identify the most appropriate methodology for ultrasound-guided vascular puncture.
AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT
Adequately set up the ultrasound machine and identify the correct transducer based on the required exam. Correctly identify the vascular anatomical structures and describe the most appropriate features for vascular puncture. Describe the ultrasound features suggestive of fluid in the intrapleural space. Describe the ultrasound features that correspond to a bladder globe.
COMMUNICATIVE SKILLS
To know and use proper and appropriate technical-professional terminology to describe the health-highlighted problems, the identified objectives and the actions taken.
LEARNING SKILLS
To prepare the Profit Exam by programming and managing the study individually, based on the content of the lessons, the delivered teaching text, and the sources suggested for further study.

Knowledge of the vascular anatomical structures and of the thoracic and abdominal organs

Use of ultrasound as an aid to nursing care.
-Knowledge of the physics principles of ultrasound for healthcare use;
-Ultrasound assessment of vascular anatomy and ultrasound-guided vascular puncture techniques;
- Thoraco-abdominal ultrasound evaluation.
- Practical exercise using a simulator and/or volunteer

There are no books to buy mandatory. The following books may be helpful for personal deepening:
Luca Romei, Antonietta Sabatini, Catia Biagioni, Gino Soldati. Nursing ultrasound. Medical Nursing Editions.
Orlando Catalano and Roberto Farina. Ultrasound, from methodological bases to advanced techniques. E.L.I. Medical
Matthew D. Ostroff. Ultrasound Guided Vascular access. Springers
Mauro Pittiruti, Giancarlo Scopettuolo. CAVeCeLT manual of PICCs and Midlines. Edra
Camellia Demestrscu. Echocardiography. A Practical Guide for Reporting and Interpretation

The material provided by the teacher

Use of ultrasound techniques for nursing care

Frontal theoretical lessons:
1. Physical aspects of ultrasound about its use in the medical field.
2. Set up the ultrasound machine and describe the characteristics of the different examination methodologies.
3. Outlines of histology and vascular anatomy and the thoracoabdominal organs
4. Ultrasound semiotics of vascular and thoracoabdominal organs
5. Ultrasound-guided venipuncture techniques.

Practical lessons in groups:
Exercise for ultrasound assessment on simulators or volunteers.

Lectures with broad appeal to the interaction between students and teacher and discussion of clinical cases. Practical lessons by dividing the classroom into groups.
Interactive frontal lessons with the aid of projections of files in Power Point or compatible format elaborated by the teacher.

At the end of the lessons, the didactic material will be provided. For the purposes of the final evaluation, it is essential to integrate such content with what was discussed in class. The power point presentations relating to the teaching units are available on the moodle@units and Microsoft Teams IT platforms.

Written exam through the formulation of 10 multiple choice questions which aim to verify if the student has acquired the indispensable knowledge to be able to apply them to the clinical-care situation. For each of these there will be 4 answers where only 1 will be the correct one. If the correct answer is identified, the student will receive 1 point, if the wrong answer is identified, 0 points will be awarded. The exam is considered passed if the student acquires an evaluation of not less than 6/10
The evaluation will be assigned based on the following criteria:
0-5: Ineligible
6-10: Suitable

This course explores topics closely related to one or more goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (S.D.G.s)
